Special Message from FAS President Charles Ferguson

Dear friends,

Since January 2010, I have been privileged to serve as the president of the Federation of American Scientists. In two months, on August 6th, I will be stepping down from my role as president to pursue a special opportunity as the director of the Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board at the National Academy of Sciences.

I am grateful to countless people over these seven-plus years. Paramount among them are you — the supporters, readers, donors, and knowledge-seekers who embody the FAS mission to provide the public and policymakers with fact-based scientific analysis to reduce catastrophic threats against our world and increase openness in government.

During the next two months, I will continue to serve as FAS president to help lead the search for a new president with our Board of Trustees and Board of Experts and ensure a seamless transition to the new leadership. Furthermore, when my tenure as president is officially over, my commitment to FAS will not end. I will become a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees and will continue to serve FAS in an advisory capacity.

Once a new president is selected after our expansive search and rigorous review, you will be the first to know who will help lead FAS into a new and exciting phase for the organization during a time where nonpartisan analysis is crucial to a functioning democracy and the preservation of the roles of science in public policy and international security.

If you believe you or someone else may be qualified, I encourage you to read the official job description and reach out to FAS' Membership, Marketing, and Communications Manager Frankie Guarini at fguarini@fas.org.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Ferguson
President
