Inhofe Urges NRC Head to Follow in Former Chairman’s Footsteps

Inhofe Urges NRC Head to Follow in Former Chairman’s Footsteps

Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman James Inhofe (R-Okla.) wants Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Stephen Burns to respond to NRC inefficiencies by tackling challenges as aggressively as former Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson did in the 1990s.
Inhofe said that while the NRC is moving in the right direction to improve spending and regulatory processes, there is much more the agency can do to address stakeholder concerns. He pointed to Jackson holding a 1998 meeting with stakeholders to face challenges. As the Environment and Public Works Committee expresses mounting concerns for the NRC, Inhofe said the situation reminds him of the situation leading up to that stakeholder meeting.
